The quarry in Cape Girardeau, Southeast Missouri Stone Co., was established in the late 1960s due to the need for material on the Missouri interstate projects. The quarry in Southern Illinois, Southern Illinois Stone Co. was originally started in the 1940s.
The two quarries produced over one million tons of material last year at each location. That is over two trillion (2,000,000,000) pounds of rock that was blasted, crushed, screened, stockpiled, loaded, and shipped.
