History

In 1962, Delta Asphalt Inc. was formed to provide the Missouri market with asphalt and contracting services. During the mid-1960s as the interstate program ended in the Cape Girardeau area, Delta Companies converted from predominantly concrete construction to asphalt construction.

In 1966, the D.L. Harrison Company changed directions. Most of the concrete construction equipment was sold and the company converted to the asphalt business. In 1995, the company expanded to Central America to build several sections of the Pan American Highway, this system of highways spans over 26,800 miles.

In 1994, Delta Asphalt of Arkansas expanded to the west and southwest with the acquisition of Baughn Construction Company Inc. and Black River Asphalt. Stephen Baughn, along with his wife Angela, owned Baughn Construction Company and agreed to stay on as General Manager of the Tuckerman Division.

In 2002, Delta Asphalt of Arkansas Inc. purchased two additional asphalt plants in Searcy and Heber Springs.

Today you cannot enter Cape Girardeau, Missouri on an interstate that Delta Companies did not play a significant role in constructing.

Products

Delta Companies provides four MODOT approved asphalt mixes: Superpave, Bituminous Base, BP-1 and BP-2. Each mix serves different purposes due to the various compositions.
