Delta Companies Inc. Employee Spotlight Austin Williams

Austin Williams joined Delta Companies Inc. in 2012 after graduating from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management.  However, he did not follow the typical path to this degree. He entered college as a “history major.”

He has always been artistic, so when he noticed a drafting class was available as an elective, he signed up. He enjoyed it and after several discussions with his college advisor, he changed his major to Construction Management.

He started in Quality Control by testing aggregates and asphalt paving mixtures. During this time, he became familiar with the overall operations of quarries and asphalt plants. After three years, he was promoted to Asphalt Plant Foreman at our Poplar Bluff facility. His quality control background proved beneficial to him in this new role. Although he was unfamiliar with the maintenance of an asphalt plant, he quickly learned all about it, up close and personal!

Following the acquisition of ASA Asphalt last year, he was promoted to Estimator/Project Manager for this company. The city, private, and commercial market requires a lot of attention, since much of the work is negotiated. He not only had to learn an estimating system and process, he had to develop negotiating, sales, and marketing skills in a hurry. He did!

When asked about his hobbies, Austin’s list begins with his wife Shannon and three-year-old daughter Maci. He and his wife are expecting a second child early next year. He is an avid golfer, and enjoys hunting and fishing.

What’s his favorite aspect of working for Delta? “How different it is every day.” Every job is different. He enjoys meeting and talking with different people every day.
